oy Ag! I was trying out my new gear (10-17mm w/ 580 EX) last night at HH with poor results. any tips on settings? the flash manual is longer than my attention span.
edit: I just found the pullout wide panel on the flash.

Can you post a sample pic? What serttings were you shooting at?
For Hickam at night, I'll expose for the background (maybe a tad under so the subject can come forward) Then I'll just set the flash to auto and it usually gets an OK exposure. If shooting fisheye, I try to shoot the skater off center. This makes a better composition, but you might have to angle the flash a little to hit the skater. A diffuser is helpful to spread the flash out and keep the flash from being too hot. |

I went back last night and was shooting full Otto to get a feel for the camera. the place was deserted and there were few willing subjects. this shot came closest to the exposure I was trying to get.

^ that looks like pretty good exposure to me. What kind of image are you trying to get that this isn't doing?
^^the 580 EX can be used as a master in a multiple flash setup, but the 430EX is good too and a little cheaper.
