Among the multitude of fine 'natural' skatespots in Hawaii Kai is a ditch/boat loading dock called Uluwatus. Located up in the valley by Mariner's Cove, the relatively smooth cement walls of this historical skatespot have seen decades of good skate action. Uluwatus was one of the prime spots in the surf/skate emergence of Hawaii during the early seventies. Many surf films and pictures of that era feature professional surfers, such as Larry Bertleman and his buddies, carving and slashing these walls on urethane wheels. Today, Uluwatus has relatively gone neglected, but still is a great secluded spot to hang out, skate, maybe even pull up your car for a late night poke session. Although the ditch is beginning to crumble on the water side, making it ineffective for loading boats, and it's relatively easy to lose your errant board into the Marina, which is a festering hotbed for infection, venerial diseases, stingrays and sharks, Ulus always makes for a fun mellow session, which is a change of pace when you're trying to get away from the flesh-eating, ankle-breaking, speed-line trannies prevalent at many of Oahu's other famed skate ditches.

I don't know?? a couple of stars?? Whatever. bonus points if you bring a mini launch ramp.
