Video Review
Damaged & Amnesia
Concussion Magazine, Concussion Productions DVD. 2003, 2004
"Like a blow to the head, this special addition DVD is bound to leave your head spinning and your ears ringing."-Concussion
I've had this video for quite some time on VHS. Love the magazine, and I like Concussion's style. I never wrote a review on it because it completely slipped my mind (or I had amnesia or something). I had to look at our main page to see if I did write a review, because I thought that I did. Oh well, the DVD is out now and it kicks ass even more than the tape ever did. The DVD also includes 1991's Amnesia video as a bonus feature (which I hadn't seen). So it's actually like 2 videos for the price of one. Now is the time to check it out if you haven't already.
Concussion videos run the gamut in crazy skate action: street, park, pool, ditch, backyard ramp, whatever. A little snowboarding and surfing is also thrown in there for good measure. All wrapped together in Concussion's underground pseudo-Satanic bloody decomposing maggot-infested dead people everywhere getting blown up by nuclear bombs kind of style. A real simple formula.
The thing I like most about the Concussion videos are the fact that they have generous amounts of sick footage from some of the lesser known/underground/lower profile skaters. I might be a little out of it or something, but until Concussion came along I'd never heard of some of these guys before. Names like Casey Lindstrom, Jacob Tillman, Sean O'Loughlin, Chad Shelter, Adam Morgan, Jud Hertzler, and many others come to mind. These guys are sick and their skating will blow you away.
There's not too much more besides the crazy skate/surf/snowboard action that occurs from beginning to end. Except, of course, for some of the gnarliest most gruesome slams and head bonks you'll ever see. Some are pretty much unbearable to watch. At the very beginning of the Damaged video there's a slow-motion mini-ramp knee fold the wrong way-type of leg breakage that I could have probably gone without seeing. You can actually see the reaction of all the people standing on the deck of the ramp start looking away. Gruesome.
Check the DVD out because they are top-notch videos. It's even better because you get two for the price of one.
